The Guggenheim is a contemporary art museum in Bilbao. It forms part of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation which has museums in other major cities across the world, such as New York and Abu Dhabi. Work of the architect Frank Gehry, the building was opened in 1997

and has a revolutionary metal structure that traces curves in the air. It covers an area of approximately 24,000 square metres and there are more than 19 galleries inside.

The museum is situated in the midst of spacious squares and gardens, so the area tends to be very popular, busy and dynamic. The museum’s main square and main building are on Calle Iparragirre, one of Bilbao’s principal thoroughfares, as it crosses the city diagonally. The building is also on the bank of the Ría de Nervión, the mouth of the river that runs through the northern part of the Basque Country.

Art seems to permeate the entire area around the museum. The Guggenheim is located in one of the most modern and newly developed parts of the city. It’s an ideal area for taking long walks and enjoying the contemporary art housed inside the building.

It’s worth pointing out that the museum is not open on Mondays, so if you’re planning to visit, you can do so from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 8 pm. A standard ticket costs 13 euros but there are reduced rates for groups of more than 20 people, pensioners and students.

If you want to enjoy the city and the Guggenheim, we recommend that you park your car at our Saba car park in Bilbao Train Station, at number 22 Calle Bailén.
