Covering an area of 43 hectares, Parc de Catalunya is one of Sabadell’s largest green spaces, stretching from Avenida Francesc Macià to Can Rull.
The first project to landscape this area was the brainchild of the architects Josep Renom and Joaquim Manich in 1929. However, it was not until 1986, as a result of a public competition of ideas organised by the council, that the park as we know it today was created.
The park has many interesting areas, one of the most important of which is the amphitheatre. It’s situated in the middle of the park next to the astronomy observatory, and it has seating for 40,000 people. Some of Sabadell’s most popular concerts are held here. The park also has an artificial lake covering an area of 8,500 m2, which is home to wildlife including swans, ducks, carp, etc., and the lake also has a little wharf with around thirty rowing boats for hire. It's the ideal place to spend a pleasant day strolling round the park or sitting back on a boat and enjoying the tranquillity of the lake.
For astronomy enthusiasts, there’s also an observatory in the park. This is somewhere all budding astronomers should go: public sessions are available but must be booked in advance. If you’re a sporty type, you’ll be pleased to hear that the park also has a skate park where you can jump and loop on your skateboard, a cycle track and an open-air fitness circuit. Last but not least, the park also has a children’s playground and a special area for dogs.
