Parking in Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes - Las Arenas (Getxo)

The church has a highly unusual façade made up of 5 semi-circular stone arches adorned with large stone bricks that give the building its geometric feel. The wooden entrance is surrounded by an ornamental stone frame, with triangular shapes and reliefs. With its three buildings and grey stone dome, the Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes is one of the most imposing buildings in Getxo, and one of the tallest. Indeed, the church takes up a whole block, not just with the building but also because it has a good-sized garden in which to sit back and relax.

The basilica is open to the public from Mondays to Saturdays, 10 am to 7.30 pm. On Sundays and public holidays you can visit this unique church only in the mornings.

You’ll find it on Calle Barria at the intersection with Calle Areetako Etorb, very close to the city’s Nervión river. Getxo, the neighbourhood in which this church is located, is one of the busiest in the city as it has the most shops, bars and other commercial premises. Close to the basilica is Plaza Escuelas Eskolak, definitely a place that no visitor should miss.
