Plaza de Sant Jaume is one of the oldest and most important squares in the city, as it houses Barcelona City Hall and the Palau de la Generalitat, the seat of the Catalan Government. The square was originally named Plaza de la Constitución and it held this name until 1931, although it was not until 2013 that the Mayor at the time, Xavier Trías, removed a metal plaque made by Celdoni Guixà that still read ‘Plaza de la Constitución’.
