Riazor Stadium is one of the most popular tourist attractions in A Coruña. It was opened in 1944 and is the home ground of Real Club Deportivo de A Coruña.

Santiago Rey Pedreira designed the stadium with capacity for 37,000 fans (60,000 in the days of standing room). In fact, the ground had space for half of the population of A Coruña, which in the 1950s stood at around 120,000 inhabitants.

Today it is a historic place that gives it name to the surrounding area: Ciudad Deportiva de Riazor. You can get there from Rúa Manuel Murguía or the street that runs parallel to it, Avenida de la Habana.

This history that permeates its walls makes the Riazor Stadium a must-see for anyone visiting this part of Galicia. The first match ever played at Riazor was a friendly between Spain and Portugal on 6 May 1945. One year later it hosted the final of the Copa del Rey between Real Madrid and RCD Espanyol, which ended with a score of 2-0.

Right next door is the Casa del Agua, a leisure centre offering a spa, gym and all kinds of treatments. The Stadium also makes a good stopping-off point on the way to Riazor beach, just a short walk away down Avenida de la Habana.

A visit to the Riazor Stadium is a must for all football fans staying in the city. On match days, it is more difficult to find parking spaces, but Saba has several car parks in the area where you can leave your car without problems.
