Irún Town Hall is situated on Plaza San Juan Arriaza, right in the centre of this town in the province of Guipuzcoa. It’s a square building that was constructed over the course of the 18th century. Its main façade has an arcade of five Roman arches and cross-ribbed vaulting.


Inside, the visitor will find an impressive wooden staircase that was restored in the 20th century and is covered in a red carpet. If you look up, you’ll see a dome formed by eight small stained glass windows. Each of these windows represents one of the traditional lands of Euskal Herria, or the Basque Country.

It is worth taking a look at the chapter house (Sala Capitular), also known as the Salón de los Plenos, the Sala de Sesiones and the council rooms.

To get there, take Calle Prudencia Arbide and turn onto Calle Jesus. Just a few steps away from the town hall you’ll find a large park area and, also on Plaza de San Juan Arriaza, you’ll see the Carlos Blanco Aguinaga Library. The square is full of colour thanks to the painted façades of the buildings that line it and the paving stones in different shades of brown.

About 15 minutes away from the town hall, you’ll find Plaza Urdanibia, where local markets are usually held. If you’re lucky enough to be visiting the square on market day, you can try out the town’s traditional cuisine and buy some high quality local products.

This is a very central area, so it’s hard to find somewhere to park. However, there’s a Saba public car park very close by. You can leave your car there quickly, safely and at any time of the day, because it’s open 24 hours.
